long term goal

This project was very important to me because I am going to open a Pet Sitting Business in 2010. I enjoy being around animals and hate to see an abused or abandoned animal, so giving to this organization was very easy for me to do. I just hope my community will support me as well. thank you to all those who particpated and donated.

Service Learning Project

I am worried that my community will not support my food drive, with the economy as bad as it is now, it is hard for people to help those in need, when so many are there themselves. My biggest fear, is not having a good turn out that will support so many of our stray animals, they are in need more than the human race. I have always had a love and passion for animals, and it breaks my heart to visit the animals in the shelters, so if I feel this way, I am also hoping that others will as well and come out to the Genesee County Humane Society and support my food drive on December 5th 2009 from 12p.m. to 4p.m. I hope to see all my classmates donate a can of dog food or two. Thank-You

Change of Plans

My original plan was to open a doggy daycare facility that would allow pet owner's to bring their pets while on vacation, at work or any unexpected emergencies. But with all the research and "reality checks", I will not be able to do this at this time. I recently received a certificate for completing an Entrepreneur class through Kettering University. My plan now is still to be around animals. Something Furry is a Pet Sitting Service that will allow me to visit the pet's home to take them on a walk and playtime one on one. Being convenient to both the owner and the pets; so they are comfortable in their own environment and by February 1st 2010, I hope to start my business.

Technical Definition

Our group works very well together, everyone gets a small part in the project and researches the topic, reveals information, and research, developing a strong paper. Luckily, everyone in my group is a woman, and has somewhat of an idea what it is like to have a baby naturally. with everyone's experience and knowledge, each of us has our own story to tell, and that is what makes our group unique.

What SLP has taught me?

Working on this project has shown me that there are still people out there that care, and willing to help by volunteering at Genesee County Humane Society, cleaning cages, cleaning messes, walking the dogs. I have a deep passion and love for animals, so selecting this organization for me was simple. Many pets that are brought to the GCHS are strays and with a $5.00 donation it would help 3 dogs or cats get the proper vaccinations. At the time of this writing,(July, 2009) the population number of the country was 306,861,871, just think if every person donated their time or money, how well off these animals would be.

Service Learning Project

I chose the Genesee County Humane Society (GCHS), it is a non-profit organization that specializes in taking stray and/or abandoned animals, giving them a safe, warm place to stay until a family or individual can adopt them. They have been around for 20+ years, and strive off donations from the public. In short, their mission is to provide shelter and adoption of companion animals, reduce overpopulation, extend humane education, prevent cruelty, and provide those services that promote its goals and policies. Although, the GCHS recieves plenty of donations which includes hard dry food, blankets, toys etc. The real need for the animals at GCHS are cans of wet food for dogs and cats, hard rubber toys that keep the bigger dogs busy while waiting for adoption. My proposal is to have a food drive, printing up flyers and handing them out to the public so they can bring their donations to the GCHS where I will have a table and donate my time to raise the needs for these animals.

Service Learning

Service Learning is an exciting teaching and learning strategy that joins together meaningful community service with a profitable learning experience. It also offers a hands-on approach to education through universities, colleges, and schools. Service learning combines service and learning objectives with the intent to show a change, not just in the recipient and the provider of the service, but also in the community. I personally chose Genesee County Humane Society (GCHS) for my Service Learning Project because of my love, passion and dedication for animals. Providing a safe, loving and warm place for an animal to lay it’s head at night, giving it two meals a day and providing nourishment will give a stray dog or cat hope. Because the GCHS is a non-profit organization which relies on the community for donations, they need our support. According to my source, GCHS receives more than enough dry pet food but are still in need of wet dog and cat food. My proposal is to have a dog toy and canned pet food drive on December 5th 2009 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. My only concern with this project is that no one will donate to this wonderful cause.
I have contacted the proper person to gather my information that is needed to continue with my project. She is on board and is willing to help in any way possible.

PLCR Research

By law every business must have posted, an equal employment opportunity poster size board regarding sexual harassment, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disabilities do's and don'ts, that way if an employee has an issue with anything, it is posted so all can see.
*Having weekly or monthly meetings with employees is a good way to communicate, to see if there are any problems with people, job descriptions etc.
*Communicate with each of my employees.
*Give my employees little incentives to let them know that they are appreciated.
*Treat everyone like I would want to be treated.
If an employee is not happy at their job, then the work place will be affected, but if they are happy and feel appreciated, your business will run smoothly.

Do's and Dont's

DO'S
* The positive do's of social networking is simple.. having a "clean" name on the Internet could land you the job of a lifetime, and give you the right people to talk to that could lead into starting your own business or expanding an existing one.

*Having an upbeat, friendly, nice, manner, professionally as well as social, will help into demonstrating how well your demeaner is. For instance, if someone is "bashing" someone else's name, then that really doesn't say much for that individual.

*You get to talk to people, relatives from other states, regions, countries.

DON'TS

*This will decrease the possibility of getting a job.

*If you know of a certain person with a not so good reputation, because you associate with this person, you are labeled "bad" as well.

* Pictures may get on the Internet, that are for your use only. Repairing your reputation to where it should be will be extremely difficult.

Business Card

Online Identity

I just couldn't imagine seeing personal photos of myself across the Internet, how embarrassing but it does happen, whether by accident or otherwise. People have to be very careful on how they present themselves everywhere they go, by doing so, it could result in a positive way. I always think that when I start a new job, my actions and work habits tell a story as to how I am as a person. Others are watching how I carry myself. Furthermore, my work ethics say things about potential business prospects or job aspects in which I am interested. Provocative pictures and explicit language does not look well on a personal website.

Ever Changing Workplace

Technology has taken over society, remember when all you had to do was look an address, phone number or a name up in the big thick yellow book? how easy was that? Today technology is a must, you can't do anything without a computer, applying for a job or looking up your family history. It is every where, phones, homes and even small business's from Microsoft that lets you create your own resume to programs that allows you to make your own business cards. Jobs will be sent across sea to save money. With computers today, people are meeting their soul mates online and addressing job prospects in different states. Technology is amazing and is getting bigger and bigger.

Assessment Test

When I took the assessment test, I was labeled as a Supporter, with professions including, nurse, social worker, caterer, flight attendant, bookkeeper, medical/dental assistant, exercise physiologist etc. This couldn't be more from the truth, although I get along with people, and some of these jobs I might be able to accomplish, however, I would not be completely happy or satisfied with this line of work. My heart and passion is to be around animals. This is where I am at ease and in my comfort zone. If I am having a rough day, all I have to do is see one dog or cat, and I am all mush. I believe an assessment test would help an individual who does not know what field they would like to go into, but for me I know exactly where I need to be.

Mission Statement

Since childhood, I have been an adamant animal lover, owning the basic cat and dog to an exotic lizards and even ferrets. With my passion and deep love for animals, In the next five years, I would like to open a doggy daycare/kennel; that provides a safe, fun, clean, loving environment for pet owner's while on vacation or everyday emergencies. My feelings of having an animal epecially a dog, I believe that these creatures are loyal, always waiting and excited to see you; whether your gone an hour or only five minutes makes no difference to them, it is priceless. Having and Associate's in Business Management from Davenport Universitywill give me the knowledge of how to run a small business. In this business environment I will be able to put my whole heart and soul into my work, because this is where I belong, it will be like a piece of the missing puzzle.
